Synopsis:

Zoe carries a heavy heart. The spectre of her mother Joanne, who died giving birth, still weighs heavily on her and her father Neil.

Each year Zoe returns home on her birthday, to watch Joanne’s pre-recorded, annual video message on the battered old family VCR player. And with each passing birthday, Zoe feels like her mother is slipping away from her, while Neil just wants to forget.

Yearning to connect with the mother she never knew, Zoe begins to piece together what actually happened to Joanne and as she does so, starts to discover that the old VHS tapes are more than just messages – they are a voice from beyond the grave, traces of her mother trying to make contact from the ‘other side’.

But as Zoe gets ever closer to uncovering the mystery, increasingly hostile paranormal activity threatens the family home. She realises her search has awoken something far more sinister: a parasitic, demonic entity that’s latched onto Joanne’s memory and that somehow lives inside the tapes.

Before the demon fully crosses over, eerily taking on the warped, glitching form of Joanne’s VHS recordings, Zoe must discover exactly happened the night her mother died to expel the entity for good.

From award-winning short filmmakers Josh Tanner and Jade Van Der Lei, Posthumous is a zeitgeisty, deliciously retro supernatural horror.
